Porcelain veneers are a versatile and powerful cosmetic dentistry tool. However, they are not right for everyone. If you are considering porcelain veneers here are some factors to consider.
Healthy Teeth: Porcelain veneers are not restorations designed to build up or protect teeth damaged by decay. You should have healthy front teeth to receive porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can be placed on a tooth that has become discoloured because the pulp has died, but veneers used in this situation tend to have a shorter lifespan.
Healthy Bite: Porcelain veneers are generally very long-lasting restorations, but they may fail early if your bite is imbalanced and puts too much force on them. It’s important to have your bite evaluated before committing to porcelain veneers.
Commitment to Care: If you take care of them, porcelain veneers can remain in place, stain-free, and attractive for decades. If you want to get the best results out of your porcelain veneers, you have to make a commitment to care for them and for the rest of your smile. If you are not prepared to make a commitment to future dental health, you are not a good candidate for porcelain veneers.
